Fragrance lover’s are often lover’s of life. And there is nobody who embodies this more than our radiant Club Member, Binuri Fernandez. Read on as Binuri talks to us about scent, love, and how her Perfume Playground experience made her feel more connected to her (now) husband, Gino.
Binuri, tell us about yourself?
I was born in Sri Lanka and came to Melbourne in 1995. I have been raised by my beautiful parents who sacrificed everything to provide a better quality of life for my brother and I. My parents have shaped me into who I have become, and I like to think that I’m a bubbly, talkative and extroverted individual. I really do believe the quality of life comes from the people you surround yourself with. Hence the most important thing to me is spending time with my loved ones, learning new things together, eating together, dancing together, laughing together, absolutely anything as long as we are all together.
What inspired the beautiful idea of creating bespoke scents for your wedding?
Gino and I have always loved fragrance. We love how fragrance has a memory attached to it. The nostalgic feeling when you smell a familiar scent sometimes gives us goosebumps. It is beautiful to look back and remember memories that you have experienced simply from a smell. This is why we wanted a special scent for our day. A fragrance that we could create together, and when we smell it afterwards, it brings us back to our special moment.
At Perfume Playground – we love love! Tell us, how did you and Gino first meet?
Gino and I met at work. We used to work on the same floor, which is where we first locked eyes. We would have chats in the kitchen, get coffee, a meal here and there, everything was just friendly. Everything changed after just one dinner and three bottles of wine. Since then, we have been inseparable.
Paint us a picture of your big day?
Our wedding was at a winery, with beautiful wine, food and people. Wine is what started everything for us, so having our wedding at a winery was ideal. It was a day of fun, laughter, lots of dancing and pure love. My emotions during the whole day were so high. However, my beautiful parents and bridesmaids kept me calm and relaxed. Melbourne really treated us with the weather. When we got to Zonzo, I saw the stunning yellow leaves on the vines, which is when it all felt real! Honestly, I couldn’t keep it together once the ceremony started. Everything was so special! Seeing Gino, my friends and family, it all felt so surreal. Even thinking about it now gives me goosebumps.
Tell us about the type of fragrance you created.
Binuri: My scent is smokey with a hint of citrus. Smokey scents make me feel strong, bold and confident. The citrus feels pure, fresh and calm. Once everything was put together, I felt a sense of passion.
Gino: My scent is a spicy cinnamon fragrance. It’s like nothing I have worn before. Honestly, it was such an unexpected surprise. I was just playing around with the oils, mixed whatever scents I liked, and magic was created.
Do you plan to wear the scent after the wedding?
Definitely! We want to feel that passion from our wedding. We want to keep reliving the moment.
What was your scent design experience like?
Our experience was beautiful. It was calming and personalised. I really felt even more connected to Gino during this process. The excitement of creating the scents together made me feel calmer and more grounded for our big day. Honestly, it was perfect.
Would you recommend this experience to other couples?
We really do. It is such a beautiful way to connect with one another.
